I have loved learning more about these technology tools.
Some of them I have used for a long time, some for just a little bit and others
are brand new. It is fun for me to learn and think about how I might use them
in a school as an administrator and as a classroom teacher.
I teach kindergarten and generally kindergarten parents are
really connected to what is happening at school, they love to see pictures, and
hear stories and know what is happening in the classroom. Having a class blog
would be an easy thing for me to implement and for parents to see what is
happening in our classroom. If I am able to post all student pictures that will
make it really easy to do, and an easy way to share the many pictures I take in
the classroom.
On a building level, our school isn’t currently running a
school Facebook page. This is one of the
pillars of Digital leadership that would help brand our school, and help
with a positive projection of our school and district. I loved that Brouillet
shared their SBA scores and how we have some really great things to share at
our school as well! I have been aware
this is a directive from our district, and our last principal wasn’t interested
in having that done as she was retiring and wanted to leave it for the new
principal. I am hoping, and have an email out to our new principal to see if
she will add me as a manager to our school fb page so I can upload pictures to
it… I am hopeful! J
Some cautions I
should be aware of as I move forward, are being sure that I am able to use all
student pictures… (Which I cleared already through our office staff last spring!)
Also knowing that not all parents are connected online, and being sure I am
sharing information in other ways as well.
Secrets of Change:
Capacity Building Prevails- reminds me of Dr. Yeomans and one of the big things
he focuses on is building capacity. In my current building, I work with a bit
of an older staff, for example one of the teachers in my building, has the most
seniority in our district, and has taught in the same school… for 44 or 45
years! She has taught generations of families! J
Not her specifically, but generally there seems to be a feeling of “this”
(computer stuff, data, demands, RTI) is “hard, and I don’t get it and don’t
have time” so I feel like there is room there to help build capacity and help
them understand some of the basics so they too can feel empowered by all the
resources available to us! (this also speaks to NETS A 4a as I lead purposeful
change at school and help build capacity with technology use in the classroom
and share some of the tools we have learned here in class!)
PS SORRY for posting so late! See you guys soon! Happy Birthday Glenn!! :)
I also thought posting SBA scores was a great idea. The idea of letting parents know and helping them to see that Brouillet cares about student success.. all year long. Thanks for sharing.
